There are three oils which you can utilize to treat your eczema rash and these include Evening Primrose oil, fish oil, and emu oil. Out of these three, only Evening Primrose oil is derived from a plant because fish and emu oil are derived from animals; and only emu oil can be applied topically on the skin as it comes in the form of emu oil eczema ointments. Evening Primrose and fish oil can only be taken as supplements and can't be used on the skin.
Fish oil is one of the longest running eczema natural treatments and is best known for its Omega 3 fatty acids which are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). While these are derived from the fatty tissue deposits of fish, they are not found in all breeds of fish. These fatty acids actually come from microalgae which sardines and herring fish feed on. These fish then store these fatty acids in their fat, making them the best candidates from which these fatty acids can be derived from. But the fish that feed on sardines or herring can also store these Omega 3 fatty acids in their fat and among these predatory fish are sharks, albacore tunas, sword fish, and tilefish.
Evening Primrose oil is yet another popular natural treatment for eczema and contains both Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids which are linolenic and linoleic acids respectively. It comes from a plant called "Evening Primrose" or "Sundrop". And just recently, the emu oil eczema ointment was added into the roster of today's eczema natural treatments. Derived from the emu bird, a bird species found in Australia, it contains the most Omega fatty acids including oleic acid and the same linoleic and linolenic acids found in Evening Primrose oil. According to Dr. Paul Smith, Amanda Brown, and Dr. Margaret Craig-Schmidt of Auburn University, 70 percent of emu oil is made up of unsaturated fatty acids. Of this fatty acid content, 40 percent of which is oleic acid, 20 percent is linoleic acid, and 1 to 2 percent is linolenic acid.
As you can see, all three oils - fish oil, Evening Primrose oil, and emu oil eczema ointments - have one thing in common and that is they all have Omega fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are popular for their supposed health benefits because they increase the concentrations of good cholesterol in the blood while decreasing bad cholesterol at the same time. Omega 6 fatty acids may not be as popular as Omega 3 but they are just as useful because they support many bodily functions.
The Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids found in fish and Evening Primrose supplements as well as in emu oil eczema ointments have the ability to treat eczema rashes by triggering certain body processes which fight against inflammation. Fish oil and Evening Primrose oil can treat many eczema rashes at the same time since they are taken as supplements and therefore digested by the body for distribution through the blood stream. Emu oil eczema ointments have the limitation of stopping inflammation at a local area although there are some manufacturers which produce emu oil eczema supplements. Emu oil eczema supplements are better than ointment preparations because they deliver systemic results.
The use of fish oil, Evening Primrose oil, and emu oil eczema ointments and supplements in treating eczema rashes is unquestionable. It's truly amazing how nature provides us with eczema natural treatments such as these by giving us plants like the Sundrop and animals like fish and Emu birds. Apart from improving our health, they also deal with health problems including eczema.
